U10/11 Girls Spring Season Wrap-up

The Alexandria Soccer Association Recreational Division ended its spring season on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The U10/11 Girls played an outstanding end of season tournament. Despite the wet weather and muddy fields, the U10/11 girls were fearless. Some even put mud on their faces on purpose! Each game was exciting and several were nail biters! Three of the games ended in overtime and shoot outs.

The Division II First Place Title was awarded to the Tidal Waves coached by John Michos. Second Place in Division II was won by the Hippogriffs, the Barrett Elementary School team coached by Eric Jensen.

The Division I tournament was won by the MacArthur Eagles. This team placed 9th last season but was determined to play as a team and become winners. They worked hard all season and developed an unbeatable offense - with Claire Biladeau demonstrating amazing footwork and aggressive play by Melanie Hart and Katie Henshaw leading the team to an undefeated season. They faced the Shooting Stars coached by Jennifer Goodrum in the final game of the tournament. After regulation play and 5 overtime rounds, the game remained scoreless. The Eagles goalie, Katelyn Lunini of MacArthur Elementary School not only stopped 11 shots on goal in the final shootout but went on to score the winning goal for the Eagles. After Katelyn stopped the final shot she said "I have never been so happy to have something hit me in the face!" It was an unforgettable end of the season game. The Eagles coaches, Bob Henshaw and Christina Lytle as well as all of the parents were impressed with the way the girls stayed focused and never let up.

The combined U10/11 division has nine girls teams and the season has been extremely competitive. The girls are already talking about the fall soccer program.
